About Me

- About Me -

My name is Maxwell T. Leaning

I grew up in a rural town in Ohio, and it is in that small town that I am still living. I went away to college to get my degree in English Literature, with intentions of finding a career in education. During my second year at University I was diagnosed with cancer. After a couple of surgeries through the summer months between my sophomore and junior year, I rushed back to campus for Fall Semester with little time to recover, mentally or emotionally. That year did not go well.

I moved back home after an abysmal junior year, and it was that next winter that I found myself employed at a small independent bookstore in Mount Vernon, Ohio. I was living in Gambier at this point, and found myself happily employed, and surrounded by books. I spent the next five years working at this store before being promoted to Assistant Manager. It was alongside that promotion that I started back at University, full time, to finally finish my degree. As graduation drew near, and the impending reality that I would be seeking jobs outside of the bookstore began to set in, they offered me the Manager position at the store so that they could keep me for another couple of years.

And that's where this begins. I'm an avid reader. I manage an independent bookstore. And I love to talk about all things books: book reviews for books that I've loved and hated, upcoming releases, and (as always) fighting the good fight to get more customers to shop local, and support small, independent bookstores.

I hope, dear reader, that you find something worthwhile here,

Maxwell
